General Dentistry

General dentistry focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of oral health conditions to help patients maintain healthy teeth, gums, and smiles throughout their lives. Learn more about the treatments we offer and discover which options may best suit your individual needs and goals.
White Fillings:
White dental fillings, also known as composite resin fillings, are one of the most common restorative treatments used in dentistry today. They are a more esthetic alternative to traditional silver amalgam fillings because they are designed to blend naturally with the color of your teeth. Composite fillings are not only durable and long-lasting, but they also help support both cosmetic and restorative goals by repairing damaged areas while maintaining a natural appearance. White fillings may be a good option for patients with cavities, old existing fillings that have broken down over time, or minor tooth chipping and fractures. This treatment helps restore the strength, function, and appearance of the tooth while preserving a healthy smile.
Crowns:
Dental crowns are designed for teeth that have experienced extensive loss of natural tooth structure due to decay, fractures, large fillings, or other damage. Most dental crowns are made from strong ceramic or porcelain materials that closely resemble the natural look of teeth while providing long-lasting durability. Because a crown covers the entire tooth, it helps protect the remaining tooth structure, preventing further damage or fracture. With proper care and regular dental visits, dental crowns can remain strong and functional for many years.
Implant crowns:
Implant crowns are restorations designed to replace missing teeth by attaching to a dental implant rather than covering a natural tooth like a traditional crown. While traditional crowns are placed over an existing tooth to restore and protect damaged structure, implant crowns are supported by a titanium implant that is surgically placed into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root. This makes implant crowns an excellent long-term solution for replacing missing teeth because they help restore chewing function, maintain proper bite alignment, and provide a natural-looking appearance. Implant crowns are also important for preserving jawbone health, as the implant helps stimulate the bone and prevent the bone loss that commonly occurs after tooth loss. With proper care, implant crowns are strong, durable, and designed to function much like natural teeth.
Bridges:
Dental bridges are a great option for replacing one or two missing teeth, especially when the teeth in front of and behind the space are healthy, strong, and able to provide support. A bridge works by using the neighboring teeth as anchors to hold the replacement tooth or teeth securely in place. This treatment helps restore normal chewing and speaking function while also improving the appearance of the smile. Replacing missing teeth with a bridge is important because it helps prevent surrounding teeth from shifting out of position, which can affect bite alignment and overall oral health over time. Dental bridges are permanently cemented into place and, with proper care and maintenance, can remain durable and functional for many years.
Extractions:
Dental extractions are sometimes necessary when a tooth can no longer be restored due to severe decay, deep fractures, advanced infection, or when previous treatments have failed. Our office provides both routine and surgical extractions with local anesthesia to help keep patients comfortable throughout the procedure. For patients who may experience dental anxiety or would like additional relaxation, we also offer nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas. In cases where deeper sedation or more complex surgical care is needed, we work closely with trusted local oral surgeons to ensure patients receive the appropriate level of care and comfort. Removing a severely damaged tooth can help relieve pain, prevent the spread of infection, and protect overall oral health.
Dentures:
Dentures are a removable option used to replace missing teeth and can be made as either full or partial appliances depending on a patient’s needs. Full dentures are designed to replace an entire arch of teeth and rely on the soft tissue and underlying bone structure for support, while partial dentures replace one or several missing teeth and use the remaining natural teeth as anchors to help stabilize the appliance. Dentures are often considered an economical tooth replacement option and typically have a relatively fast turnaround time compared to other restorative treatments. They can be used as either a temporary solution during healing or as a long-term option for tooth replacement. With proper care and regular maintenance, dentures can last for several years while helping restore function, appearance, and confidence when eating and speaking.
Root Canals:
Root canal treatment is indicated when decay or a crack has become very deep and is close to or has entered the tooth’s nerve, or when a new cavity develops under an existing filling and begins to invade the nerve space. In some cases, patients may experience symptoms such as pain, lingering sensitivity, or discomfort when chewing, although infection can also be present without noticeable symptoms. When bacteria enter the nerve space, it can lead to infection that may spread and affect the surrounding tissues if left untreated. During a root canal procedure, the infected or damaged nerve is carefully removed, and the inner canals of the tooth are cleaned and disinfected before being filled and sealed to prevent further infection. Because the tooth becomes more brittle and is no longer vital after treatment, a dental crown is typically recommended afterward to restore strength, protect the tooth, and ensure long-term function.
Pediatric Dentistry:
Our office provides dental care for pediatric patients and is happy to see children beginning as early as 6 months of age for early evaluations of gum health and oral development. Early dental visits are important in helping children become comfortable in the dental setting, build trust with their provider, and reduce the common fears often associated with dental care as they grow. School-aged children and teenagers typically do very well in our office for routine dental treatments, including exams, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and root canal therapy when needed. However, some pediatric services, such as stainless steel crowns and baby (primary) tooth root canals, may be limited due to specific material needs or cases requiring a deeper level of sedation related to a child’s age and cooperation. In these situations, we may recommend referral to a pediatric specialist to ensure the most appropriate and comfortable level of care for the patient.
